Solar
The ever-increasing cost of electricity is forcing homeowners to seek out more cost-effective ways of powering their homes and solar is a promising solution to this problem.
If you’re looking for a reliable company to install a quality solar system at your home or office, then you’ve come to the right place.
We don’t hide behind corporate office doors.
We don’t take your money and then send sub-contractors in to slap together the installation.
The solar industry is filled with fly-by-the-night salesmen that over-promise and under-deliver. We are not one of these companies. The design and installation of every solar system is carried out by our in-house employee’s.
Our promise to you is that we are open and transparent, and we make promises we can keep.
As individuals we are pedantic about our presentation and communication, and you can be assured that as a customer this attention to detail is passed on in the end-product that you receive.
We are a team of Solar Accreditation Australia Accredited Designers and Accredited Installers that are licenced, and competent, to work on the following types of PV systems:
- Grid-Connect PV Solar Systems
- Hybrid PV Solar Systems
- PV Battery Storage Systems
Grid-Connect PV Solar Systems are the standard most common solar systems found on homes and businesses around the country.
With a Grid-Connect Solar PV System you are still connected to the utility providers power grid (for us in FNQ, the utility provider is Ergon Energy).
With this type of system, you generate power from the sun and you utilise that power within your home. Any excess power that you produce and don’t use is sold back to the utility provider. In most cases, the utility provider might charge you around $0.25 per kWh to purchase power, but they will usually only pay you around $0.07 per kWh for the power you produce and sell back to them.
You can see that with this type of system, utilising the power you produce is where you derive the most benefit, with a small benefit attributed to selling back the excess, albeit not the greatest. These types of systems are great for businesses that are open during the day but shut in the evening, as nearly all their power needs are during business hours which is usually daylight hours when the sun is shining and the power is generating.
One disadvantage of a grid-connect solar system is that if the power grid fails (black out), your grid-connect PV solar system will also cease producing, as it needs recognition from the power grid in order to operate. So in a grid failure, although the sun might be shining you’ll be left without power.
Another disadvantage of a Grid-Connect Solar PV System is that at night time, there is no option to utilise any excess power that you may have produced during the day, instead you’re forced to purchase your night time power requirements from your utility provider.
So what is the best solution if you’re a homeowner?
Hybrid PV Solar Systems are what we refer to in our industry as ‘the bees knees’ aka the best.
These types of systems are still connected to the power grid (think grid-connect) but also have Battery Storage. Hybrid Systems offer the best of both worlds. Power that is generated from your solar system is utilised within your home, and any excess power generated is stored in your battery which can be used over-night. If your battery is full, and your still producing excess power surplus to your needs you can still sell this power back to the utility provider.
Unlike the Grid-Connect Solar PV System, in the event of a power grid failure the Hybrid Solar PV System will continue operating and generating power, and you can continue utilising this power including drawing on the battery if required. This type of system is best suited to homeowners, whereby they are usually out at work during the day so their system can store the generated power, ready for them to utilise when they get home in the evening.
With the price of batteries decreasing and the cost of electricity from utility providers like Ergon Energy increasing, a Hybrid PV Solar System is quickly becoming the system of choice for many homeowners.
